R+D+i in Spain
Nutreco's privileged position in the European animal production market is the result of its ongoing efforts in the research, development and innovation of techniques and products designed to maintain sustainable agriculture. Since the beginning of its activities, Nutreco has channelled a large portion of its efforts in creating, maintaining and promoting the necessary technical and human resources to carry out research activities applied to the market's changing needs.
Nutreco has established research centres in Europe, specialised in different key areas of activity for agricultural production. Thus, aquaculture research is done in Stavenger (Norway). Research on swine and ruminants is done in Boxmeer (Holland). Finally, Nutreco’s research activity in Europe relating to the poultry and rabbit production chain is carried out in El Viso de San Juan (Toledo, Spain).
The Poultry and Rabbit Research Centre (PRRC) is equipped with some of the best facilities for this kind of activity in Europe. The supporting human team is made up of University graduated technicians with great experience in poultry and rabbit production and nutrition, as well as in the latest techniques for animal slaughtering.
The research programs developed by Nutreco at its Research Centre in El Viso de San Juan (PRRC) are designed according to the specific needs of the poultry and rabbit industry. Problems related to animal welfare, the use of natural products in poultry and rabbit feeds and the strict control of production systems, as well as production trials of different stock, are issues to which teams of researchers devote all their energies to find the best solutions, with a view to achieving the best production efficiency, while observing ethical rules in the animal handling, and a thorough quality control in the end-product.
The Food Research Centre (FRC) is located in Lominchar (Toledo). As in the case of the PRRC, the technical team is highly specialized, and its members are experts in meat processing, microbiology, nutrition and dietetics. The FRC’s main investigation fields are based on the development of poultry meat products, food preservation, and issues relating to packaging, meat quality and food safety throughout the whole production chain.
