R+D+i in the world

Adding value for clients, the nutrition industry's development, quality, research, safety and hygiene practices, traceability, food safety and respect for the environment are all pivotal issues within the Nutreco policy.

Nutreco has sufficient turnover to have its own specialised R+D centres, which are staffed by multinational teams made up of highly qualified technicians and scientists.

Food safety, animal welfare, the environment and improvements in breeding systems are real and important elements in the research projects.

The coordination and management of Nutreco’s R+D activities are carried out in specialised centres and laboratories equipped with a wide array of cutting-edge technology, including near infrared reflectance (NIR), high-pressure liquid and gas chromatography, molecular biology techniques (PCR), texture analysis, the main objective of which is to provide maximum quality in raw materials, finished feed and meat production.

These centres include Nutreco's Aquaculture R+D Centre and the Technological Centre in Stavanger (Norway), one of the world's most advanced in its field. Nutreco's research in the food and agriculture sector is carried out in a series of centres dedicated to specific branches of the company's activities. Thus, at the Poultry and Rabbit Research Centre (PRRC) located in Toledo, tests are conducted with feed micro- and macro-ingredients to act as support for the analysis of performance, animal welfare health aspects and environmental considerations, and at the Food Research Centre (FRC) studies are carried out regarding food industry processes, transforming primary materials into nutritional and safe products for end-users.

Product quality, for both meat and eggs, is evaluated by the PRRC, the FRC through the use of a processing unit operated by Sada in Lominchar and by Trouw Nutrition España laboratory’s Masterlab. The Dutch facilities include the Swine Research Centre (SRC) in Halfweg and the Ruminant Research Centre (RRC) in Boxmeer, as well as the Boxmeer and Putten Masterlab Laboratories for projects related with meat quality and the food production chain.
